On Saturday (01-25-20) at 2:20 p.m., Kyle Police Department (KPD) responded to a burglary in progress at the 700 block of Fairway in the Plum Creek subdivision. KPD arrived in time to catch the intruder still inside the residence, and proceed to surround and secure the home.
The homeowner was not inside the residence at the time of the burglary but had seen the intruder from her home’s security camera and contacted KPD. The homeowner actually knew the intruder and was able to share the intruder’s identity and phone number with KPD.
Once the area was secured, KPD made direct contact with the intruder by phone. Despite several attempts, the intruder refused to exit the home, extending the standoff for a total of 3 hours.
At 5:13, KPD was able to coax the intruder out, and the individual was taken into police custody without incident. The intruder is currently in Hays County Jail booked on charges including burglary of a habitation and tampering with evidence.
The intruder also had existing felony warrants for fraud.
Special thanks to KPD for their swift and comprehensive response to this incident.
